Can’t go wrong with Koh Rong
The original plan was to stay in Otres 3 nights and spend 1 night on Koh Rong, unfortunately Otres was so relaxing that we lost motivation in moving and only made it to Koh Rong for a day trip. Of course once we stepped off the boat I regretted my inhibition to leave Otres. This small island had 26 beaches, pretty much sprinkled every few hundred feet. There was an introductory speech at the local bar for everyone that had just arrived by boat, they told you about the different places to stay depending on budget, where to eat, what beaches were best for snorkeling, and pretty much anything else you could imagine. There are no ATMs on the island, so they were also talking about the Passport Bank they had. Where you turn in your passport for cash, and once you’re back on the mainland and get money out of the ATM you get your passport back, simple but logical. (The first photo is me holding an envelope that was delivered to me by a stranger on the boat yelling out, “Who’s from Hawaii”, a gentlemen I had met the night before knew I would be on that boat trip and had it delivered. It’s contents were 2 beautiful hibiscuses, which he said reminded him of me…Romance isn’t dead. At least not over in Cambodia.)
We walked around as much as we could in the few hours we had here. Then ended up hiring a boat to take us to the other side of the island where Long Beach was. Long Beach had been voted #1 beach in the world this year (2015). It was pretty spectacular. Like many beautiful places or moments, photographs don’t truly give it justice, but you can get the drift.
